This full-day bus tour begins from Hersonissos and it takes us to the western part of the island, and to the most ravishing town of Crete, Chania Town, a crossroads of the peoples of the Mediterranean that once conquered the island. It was an important Minoan city and the former capital of Crete island. Chania town is divided into two separate parts: the Old and the New town, each with its own distinctive style. Stretched along the beautiful Venetian port, the Old town of Chania is definitely worth a visit: the oldest synagogue in Greece, the old mosque, the covered market, Turkish minarets and mosques, fountains, dockyards, arches, Loggia, the Lighthouse is only some of the many samples of the civilizations that have passed from the city. In the New City of Chania, you can find souvenir shops, boutiques, leather goods, modern cafés, and little traditional taverns.
We leave this extraordinary city and head for the picturesque lake of Kournas, a natural freshwater hydro-biotope, a place for a wide assembly of plants and aquatic species. Here, you have the chance to swim, walk around the lake, admire the beautiful scenery and enjoy your lunch at one of the few traditional taverns by the lake. Kournas is protected by the Natura 2000, as it is a designated wetland.
On our way back, we visit Rethymno, the third biggest city in Crete, which has retained most of its medieval character. Rethymno city keeps vivid its Renaissance beauty and combines it with modern style in a unique way. Rethimno is a lovely city with narrow streets and a lot of sights. Rethymno is also the cultural and scientific center of the island.
